Day 1
Day 1 – Adjectives – Matching adjectives • What is an adjective? An adjective is a word that is used to describe a noun. Example: I looked at the shiny, white shell as I walked down the golden , sandy beach. adjectives nouns
We can use different adjectives to mean the same thing. Example: The happy girl played with her friends. The joyful girl played with her friends. Happy and joyful both mean the same thing. They are BOTH adjectives.

Why did Jack take the hen? Should he have taken it? 7. Would you climb up a beanstalk? Why? /Why not?

Day 3 – Writing a story - planning • Think about the story you read yesterday. Look at the questions and your answers that you wrote down. • We are going to write our own story about Jack and The Giant. • Today we are going to think about planning our story.
Day 3 – Writing a story - planning We need to think about; 1. What characters do we want in our story? 2. Where will our story take place? This is called the setting. 3. What will happen at the beginning? 4. What will happen in the middle? 5. What will happen at the end?
Day 3 – Writing a story - planning Characters Our story is about Jack and The Giant. I am going to add my own character to the story. It will be a magic cat. So my characters will be: Jack The Giant A Magic Cat
Day 3 – Writing a story - planning • Who will your characters be? • Remember to include Jack and The Giant. • You can add as many characters to your story as you want to. • Make a list of your characters in your homework /learning book.
Day 3 – Writing a story - planning • Next I am going to plan where my story takes place (the setting). I am going to write down my ideas. • I want my story to take place in a magical forest where the magical cat lives. • My forest will have tall, green trees and beautiful pink flowers . • There will be a small house in the middle of the forest where Jack lives. • There will be a huge, scary castle at the edge of the forest where the giant lives.
Day 3 – Writing a story - planning • In your homework/learning books write down sentences to describe your setting for your story. • You could draw a picture of your setting if you would like to. • Try to include some adjectives to describe your setting.
Day 3 – Writing a story - planning • Now you are ready to start thinking about what your story will be about. • Tomorrow you can start to write the beginning of your story.
Day 4
Day 4 – Writing a story- The Beginning. Read through the characters and the setting you wrote about yesterday. Now you can start to write your story BUT only the beginning. Try to think of an interesting way to start your story so people want to find out what happens next. Example: Once upon a time on a gloomy, Autumn day Jack woke up in his tiny, blue house which was in the middle of a magical wood.
Day 4 –Writing a story- The Beginning. Your turn: Write the beginning of your story in your homework/learning books. How are you going to start your story? Remember to try and include: Capital letters Full stops Finger spaces Interesting adjectives Interesting verbs

Day 5 – Writing a story – middle and ending. Next. we are going to write what happens in the story in the middle then the ending. We need to make it exciting for our readers. I am going to start by reading what characters I need to include and where the story is set. This will remind me of the story I want to write. I will then read my beginning that I wrote yesterday. Next I will start to write my story……. Nosey Jack went to the spooky, dark castle where the scary giant lived.
Day 5 –Writing a story – middle and ending. Your turn: • Read your list of characters. • Read about the description of the setting. • Read the beginning of your story. • Next use your imagination to tell us what happens next. • Finally tell us what happens at the end. Remember to write in your homework/learning book.
