Unit 2 Jobs in Tourism • Grammar : Present Simple and Present Continuous • Present Simple : • Use Present Simple to talk about things that are always or usually true. • e. g. We specialize in city tours. • Barry has a cooking diploma. • Also use the Present Simple to describe routines, habits, actions or situations that happen all the time. • e. g. They always clean the rooms in the mornings.
• Form • The third person singular ends with –s, e. g. cleans go goes have has • e. g. He needs to make sure his assistant knows what she has to do. Use Don’t (do not) or Doesn’t (does not) to make the negative form. e. g. We don’t usually organize tours. I’m not/He isn’t a general manager.
• Present Continuous • Use the Present Continuous to describe activities that are happening now • e. g. Jane is talking to the travel agent at the moment. She isn’t booking online. • Also use Present Continuous to describe temporary activities, often with time expressions, • e. g. at the moment/now, this week/month/year • e. g. We are studying English for tourism this year. He isn’t working at the moment.
