Objective v. To show the use the simple present.
Warm-up • The teacher will prepare a lyric (song) which contains verbs in the simple present. • Underline all the verbs and in each verb write something that you want the student to do. (e. g. Dance, Jump, Hug Someone, etc. ) • The teacher will ask the students to stand up and go around to make a circle. • The teacher will pass on a hand-out with a song. The teacher will play the music and every time the student listen and recognize his/her verb he/she will do what is required for him/her to do. • Warm-up will take from 20 -30 minutes.
Rule • The verb like is followed by the infinitive form of the verb. • Examples: What do you like to do on the weekend? I like to read.
Presentation • Introduce like to 1. Tell about yourself and a friend. For example: I like to study English. My brother Gerardo likes to play soccer. 2. Make sentences with forms of like to. Have students to repeat.
Examples • • • I like to (eat). You like to (study). She likes to (watch TV). He likes to (play soccer). We like to (sing). They like to (draw).
Production # 1 Beanbag Toss • Have students toss a beanbag back and forth. The student to whom the beanbag is tossed names an activity he or she likes to do. • Student 1: I like to swim. • Student 2: I like to play soccer. • Student 3: I like to watch TV.
Production # 2 Grammar Chain 1. Start the chain game: Teacher: I like to go to church on the weekend. (to a Student A): What do you like to do? 2. Student A must answer and ask Student B, who then continues the chain.
Examples • • • Student A: I like to watch TV. (to Student B): What do you like to do? Student B: I like to play cards. (to Student C): What do you like to do? etc.
Practice • Put the following on the board: I like to _______ on the weekend. He/She likes to ____ on the weekend. We both like to _______ on the weekend. • Divide the class into pairs. • Have students interview each other about what they like to do on the weekend.
Examples • I like to go to the beach on the weekend. • She likes to go hiking on the weekend. • We both like to go jogging on the weekend.
