Engineering Department EN 1. Propose an executive summary of the Hi. Rad. Mat tests

Engineering Department EN 1. Propose an executive summary of the Hi. Rad. Mat tests results by identifying the main conclusions for future collimators with new materials. • • 19 August 2013 HRMT 14: collect, analyse and consolidate consistently test results • Recorder data (M. Guinchard + ? ) • FLUKA simulations (FLUKA Team) • FEM simulations (EN-MME, Polito) • Define, plan and follow-up post-irradiation campaign (CERN, BNL, PSI, …hot cell like ISOLDE…) HRMT 09: draw conclusions about this experiment focusing on the reliability of the numerical models. • Define, plan and follow-up post-irradiation campaign (CERN, BNL, PSI, …hot cell like ISOLDE…) • Assess consequences of material explosions on UHV, maintenance and operation (EN/STI, TE/VSC, BE/ABP, DGS/RP) A. Dallocchio– CERN 2

Engineering Department EN 2. Review/update nominal and accidental scenarios for all collimator families, for

Engineering Department EN 2. Review/update nominal and accidental scenarios for all collimator families, for present and future LHC operating modes. • Collect existing nominal and accidental scenarios (Six. Track, FLUKA, FEM) for TCP, TCS, TCT…(next meeting talk(s)? ) • Update/define realistic nominal and accident cases (Six. Track, FLUKA, FEM) • 19 August 2013 • TCP and TCS: load cases taking into account recent operational experience and future upgrade programs • TCTs accident load cases consistently with outcome of the MPP Workshop…(next meeting talk(s)? ) On the bases of previous points, anticipate potential impacts on existing and future designs. A. Dallocchio– CERN 3

Engineering Department EN 3. R&D on Advanced Materials. • Review/ update material functional requirements

Engineering Department EN 3. R&D on Advanced Materials. • Review/ update material functional requirements to steer material R&D program…(next meeting talk(s)? ) • Rank the available materials with the aim of reducing the number of interesting candidates. • Suggest additional steps to improve material performances… • Prosecute with the development, industrialization and characterization of best material candidates. • Additional in-house test equipment to be acquired. • Acquire further experience from other experiments / tests 19 August 2013 A. Dallocchio– CERN 4

Engineering Department EN 4. Inputs for the design of future TCSx (next generation HLLHC

Engineering Department EN 4. Inputs for the design of future TCSx (next generation HLLHC Secondary Collimators). • Collect relevant functional/technical requirements for the LHC collimation system upgrade. • Propose optimum candidate materials for possible construction of new TCSx. • Collect requirements for RF system. 5. Executive summary of the Ad. Col. Mat WG. • If appropriate, propose the manufacturing of one or more TCSx prototype(s) for installation and test in the LHC or elsewhere after LS 1. • If appropriate, propose new material and device tests in Hi. Rad. Mat 2 as of 2014/15 (with upgraded measurement system). • If appropriate, propose ad-hoc tests on future prototypes for specific needs (maintenance, RF, …). 19 August 2013 A. Dallocchio– CERN 5

Engineering Department EN Next Meeting Talks: proposal • Collect existing nominal and accidental scenarios

Engineering Department EN Next Meeting Talks: proposal • Collect existing nominal and accidental scenarios (Six. Track, FLUKA, FEM) for TCP, TCS, TCT. . . (more than 1 talk? ). • Review TCTs accident load cases consistently with outcome of the MPP Workshop. • Review/ update material functional requirements to steer material R&D program… 19 August 2013 A.
