Engineer Training Substrates - Self Adhesive Vinyl is a layered, plastic-based substrate, constructed as follows: q Paper or fabric is covered with a thin layer of silicon, onto which an adhesive is applied. q A layer of PVC is added; all are heat-fused. Advantages: q The PVC surface is water resistant, very flexible and strong. q Dryness and humidity do not affect the vinyl’s flatness. Disadvantages: q The PVC surface can be a problem when printing with water-based ink (surface tension). Confidential Substrates 53
