ENGG 1100 Introduction to Engineering Design Project Briefing Prof. Wing-Kin (Ken) Ma Department of Electronic Engineering March 17, 2014 ENGG 1100 | Term 2 | 2013/14 1
Project Challenges • 30% of the overall score. • Three tasks to deal with • Basic Task: 15% • Challenge Task 1: 10% • Challenge Task 2: 5% • Either Challenge Task 2. A, or Challenge Task 2. B • Demo date: April 14 (Monday) ENGG 1100 | Term 2 | 2013/14 2
Basic Task Youtube video: http: //youtu. be/dy_u 7 lx. Mk. TY ENGG 1100 | Term 2 | 2013/14 3
Some Constraints with Basic Task • The path must not be a straight line. • The angle between the starting point and destination should at least be 30 degree. • The starting point and destination must on the boundary of the testing board and at different positions. • Each group should prepare their own testing board. • The whole process should be completed automatically without anyone’s intervention. ENGG 1100 | Term 2 | 2013/14 4
Challenge Task 1 • Picks up two cans. • Youtube video: http: //youtu. be/-ze 2 rwp. XVXY • The constraints are more or less the same as those in Basic Task. Read Project Description for details. ENGG 1100 | Term 2 | 2013/14 5
Challenge Task 2. A • Picks up three cans. Also, the path must intersect itself once and only one time. The other rules are again more or less the same as before (read Project Description for details, again). ENGG 1100 | Term 2 | 2013/14 6
Challenge Task 2. B • Same as Basic Task, but with difficult-to-pick-up objects. • Prepare your own objects, totally two (must be differently shaped). • More challenging the objects the robot can handle, the higher the score it will be expected. ENGG 1100 | Term 2 | 2013/14 7
Reminders Again! • MC Quiz today, 11: 30 am • AM session: in lab; PM session: in lecture • The First Mentor-Mentees Meeting: • Write Progress Log, this time on your design proposal. • Understand the project challenges (oh did I just brief you? ), and present to your mentor your proposed design. • You don’t have much time to impress him/her. Make good preparation, talk high-level design aspects. • Zero preparation (e. g. , has not written Progress Log, late) = zero score • AM session only: Labs should be open by now. Don’t wait for 9: 30 am! ENGG 1100 | Term 2 | 2013/14 8
