So much coal „Poland relies coal and it will not change” and as saying goes, our economy is heavily dependent on coal, as previous chart has shown. There is progress towards newer methods of energy production, but compared to other countries it is slow and steady. Most of our coal is mined in Silesia, a region located in the south.

Silesia Historic region of Silesisa has it’s own, unique dialect, manner and history. Throught the centuries it was influenced by German, Polish and Bohemian cultures. It’s as well source of Polish coal and location for Polish cities such as Wrocław, Katowice and Opole – city that we are from : )

Biomass Approximately 10% of energy in Poland is from biomass, an industry term for getting energy by burning wood, biomass briquettes and other organic matter. Even though it is renewable, it emmits carbon and other not-so-healthy elements into the atmosphere creating air pollution, problem well known mainly in cities but also in villages.

Air pollution People burning fuels to heat their houses creates air pollution, what is a big problem in Poland, making living in cities very frustrating as well as creaing serious heath problems. Our cities have worst AQI (air quality index) statistics in Europe, 33 of 50 worst polluted cities are located in our home country ; /

Central heating During Erasmus project in Poland along many other interesting places, we visited ECO Company, which is focused on distributing heat and energy to Opole, and by doing that decreasing unhealthy air pollution. It is most efficient and ecological way of heating households.

Nuclear? Although Poland had plans to build nuclear power plant, it was met with too much public disaproval, especially after 2011 Fukushima nuclear accident. To this day, our country is one of the biggest countries in Europe to not have this kind of plant. There was nuclear power plant in construction, but plans had changed after reconstruction of goverment in 1989.
