Energy is all about movement SPECIFICALLY THE MOVEMENT
Energy is all about movement. SPECIFICALLY THE MOVEMENT OF ATOMS! REMEMBER: ATOMS ARE ALWAYS MOVING —SOMETIMES IT IS JUST A SMALL VIBRATION (SOLIDS) BUT OTHER TIMES IT IS LARGE MOVEMENTS OVER DISTANCES (GASES) FURTHERMORE IT IS THE MOVEMENT OF ATOMS AND THE WAY THEY INTERACT WITH ONE ANOTHER THAT TRANSFERS AND CONVERTS ENERGY
WHEN ATOMS MOVE THEY WILL HIT ONE ANOTHER. THEY COLLIDE! This is called a mechanical blow. Mechanical blows occur anytime that two objects collide, slide, or interact with one another. Sometimes when atoms move and collide they will stick together. Atoms combined in this way are said to be BONDED.
Often when atoms bond they stop moving! • HOWEVER, the energy they had while moving does not disappear! • The Energy gets stored within the bond the atoms create! • This is how potential energy (stored energy) is created and converted from kinetic energy: when are atoms bonding together and holding their movement within their connections.
TO RELEASE THE ENERGY ALL THAT NEEDS TO OCCUR IS A BREAK IN THE BOND! Broken bonds release the energy in the form of HEAT! HEAT is the product of energy: it is what actually makes things move! Anything given heat will increase in movement. This is how energy sources work! Bonds are broken through some process (like digestion) release heat, which causes the material around it to move. Stored energy is converted to heat. This is how potential energy is converted to thermal energy! Sometimes as the atoms hit—they bounce off and change places—that means kinetic energy is produced.
ONCE HEAT ENERGY IS RELEASED IT CAN ALSO FORCE OBJECTS TO MOVE AGAINST ONE ANOTHER. When any substances move against one another—this is called FRICTION. Friction creates Electrical Energy—moving and jumping electrons--which can also be stored in the bonds of atoms, in the form of things like Batteries.
REMEMBER: ENERGY HAS TO COME FROM SOME KIND OF SOURCE! • Energy is not just “made”—it always come from some other source. • If something has energy, the energy must have been transferred from something else! • The most common place is from waves (Such as Light/solar energy) that disturb and force atoms to move—such as light.
ENERGY IS NEVER LOST! IT SIMPLY MOVES FROM ONE SUBSTANCE TO ANOTHER. • Unfortunately this means it will move to everything that surrounds the original energy source or system. • In any system, each transfer or conversion of energy means a little energy is lost to the surrounding substances (air, surfaces, you, etc. . ) • The total amount energy produced will never be completely be transferred to the final destination because of it.
