Task 1 • You have 2 minutes to list as many animals as you can that you think are endangered (at risk of dying out).

These animals are all endangered.

Why are some animals in danger of becoming extinct? • What does extinct mean? When a species has no living members. • Now you know what the word extinct means. You have 1 minute to write a list of animals that you know about that have become extinct. (Such as the Dodo and Tyrannosaurus Rex etc. )

Task 2 • Create a spider diagram for reasons why animals may become extinct. Why have animals become extinct?

Reasons for animals becoming extinct Some reasons for why animals become extinct are: • Loss of habitat- deforestation etc. • Other invasive species • Diseases • Natural disasters. Tigers, Parrots, Macaws, Gorilla, Sumatran Rhinoceros, Amur Leopards, Ring-tailed Lemur and Orangutans are examples of animals that are endangered. Research 3 of these animals and why they are becoming endangered species. Create a presentation on the reasons for why your 3 chosen animals are becoming endangered species.

Task 3 • What do you think? Should animals be kept in zoos or left in the wild? Write your answer in your book and reasons why • Ask siblings or parents (if they are able to), you could ring family members on their thoughts. • Research zoo websites to better understand the work that they do to help different species.

Task 3 continued • Split your page in to 2 sections and write reasons ‘for ‘ and ‘against’ keeping animals in zoo’s. • Now think about what you have learnt and write down which argument (for or against) you now support and why? Has your researched changed your mind and why? • We would really like to see your view on this topic.
