They recently sent 300 military advisors into Iraq to help their military fight Sunni insurgents. While they have pledged not to send in military, these actions mirror those taken in the early 1950 s in Vietnam, symbolised through the characters of Pyle in Graham Greene’s ‘The Quiet American’.

However, his policies of collectivisation resulted in a famine in the Ukraine in the early 1930 s that claimed around six million lives. These victims demonstrate how Stalin’s compromise on Communist doctrine was a disaster.
