Part 1 – Why do Employees Leave? 3
Reason #1 "Twisting policy is one thing but willingly not keeping the promises we make to each other in a supervisor-employee relationship or between colleagues sows seeds of mistrust and is a breeding ground for disengagement and unhealthy relationships. " 4
Reason #2 "Often the only way employees can get away from how they've been stereotyped and broaden their capabilities is to move to a different company -- which of course is expensive for the employer losing them. “ - Brian Sullivan, CEO of Christian Timbers 5
Reason #3 “Today I found out that one coworker who is basically my assistant and another coworker in my department who is responsible for 1/3 of the amount of work I do (and started after me) both make more than me. ” 6
Reason #4 Those who are working long days and nights are sniping at those who won’t. Meanwhile, those who put in their eight hours, and not a minute more, seem incredulous that others expect them to sacrifice their personal time. (“I never signed on for this, ” says one. “I have a life!”) 7
Reason #5 “When we go to work, we want to know that our jobs are safe and that we are valued by management. If we are constantly worried and stressed about the future of our job, it is going to be very hard for us to do their best work. ” 8
Reason #6 "I get no respect, so I give no extra effort" 9
Reason #7 “Meaningless assignments, pointless meetings, co-workers who don’t care, new projects that seem destined for failure, unrelenting politics, lack of promotion or recognition of talent, a poor economy, weak job prospects, unreasonable bosses— and they all lead to fatigue, boredom, a lack of meaning and ultimately burnout. ” 10
