Employability Sophie Righton
Research carried out by REED recruitment agency found that 97% of employers would choose to hire an individual with a desired, growth mindset, but who lacks the complete skill set. Why do you think this is? Eg: If you apply for a job in a shop but have not had any experience on a till or creating window displays
When interviewing a potential employee I would be much more impressed with someone who could show me they were able to rise to new challenges. We deliberately ask our interviewees about what they felt and what they did in their previous employment when things went wrong and the ability to learn from mistakes is essential. Everyday is different, things go wrong or not as planned all the time and we need people who can cope with that and not let making a mistake effect their approach to the job. I once listed about 5 rooms for £ 9 a night instead of £ 90 and of course they sold and we couldn’t change the price after they had booked them, I was really annoyed at myself but I’d never make that mistake again because now I make sure I double check the listing. Next mind-set quality: Flexibility What does it mean to be a flexible employee?
• Employees who can get on with lots of different kinds of people • Employees who are able to complete different tasks • An employee who can deal with change • An employee who can learn new things and therefore progress at the company
Behaviour Do you get on with lots of different kinds of people? Are you able to complete lots of different tasks? Can you can deal with change? Are you able to and willing to new skills and gain new knowledge? Yes Why? or no? Yes How could you improve this? I find it easy to communicate and I need to become more confident work with people who are different voicing my opinion to people who are to me, not my age, have a different not familiar to me job etc.
