Emphasis Is the center or focus of attention and interest within a design. It is the feature or features that command attention and make a design visually interesting.
Architectural features may be the focal point: • • Fire place Decorative windows Columns Arches
Other items used as a focal point: * Works of Art and Accessories
For emphasis to work There are guidelines that you need to follow: * The point of emphasis should command your attention, but not dominate the overall design. * Other elements in the room should not compete for the emphasis.
Tips to create emphasis: 1. Arrange furniture around a focal point
2. Use color, texture or pattern 3. Placement of accessories
4. Use lighting
• The focal point should be supported by the rest of the room. • It should somehow relate to but not dominate the rest of the room. Lets look at a few more examples of emphasis. Fold
