Background-Early Childhood Eminem was born Marshall Bruce Mathers III on October seventeenth 1973 in Kansas City, Missouri. His mother was 15 year old Debby Nelson who married her boyfriend Marshal Bruce Mathers Jr. After some eratic and abusive behavior by her husband she left her husband took Eminem with her. Over the next years they moved all over the Midwest, staying with family when possible.
Background-Early Rap His uncle Ronny 1 st introduced him to rap at age 12. Eminem First began to rap at age 14, he would read the dictionary, religiously write every night and rap in the mirror. Meets Proof in 1986 - sneak Eminem into his school and would bet the black kids that they couldn’t beat him in a rap battle, essentially hustled them. 1 st album- infinite not a success 1997 - went to Rap Olympics- he lost however a intern from Interscope Records was there and asked him for his demo, ends up signing with Dr. Dre.
Creative Process Whatever the subject, the rappers' brains activated differently during the improvised flow versus the memorized lyrics. The medial prefrontal cortex became more active during the freestyle rap, while the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex became less active. Both of these regions are in the front of the brain, behind the forehead, with the medial prefrontal cortex sitting more toward the center of the brain than the dorsolateral portions. The medial prefrontal cortex is responsible for organizing and integrating information, while the dorsolateral regions are in charge of self-control, self -monitoring and self-censoring.
Influences Uncle Ronny Wilson- first introduced Eminem to hip hop at 12 years old. They had established one of the strongest relationships that Eminem had as a kid, was a stable relationship. Proof- Deshawn Holton, in 1986 became Eminem's best friends, helping him start his rapping career. Dre- 1 st main stream record company to sign Eminem. Very influential in rap and Eminem's music.
Critics-Negative This week the Odd Future rapper was blatantly honest about his feelings on Eminem’s latest release Shady XV. He took to Twitter early Friday morning to share a few words about the album, and later deleted them. “I love you Marshall, you are my favorite rapper, but dude ‘Shady. XV’ is f— ing ASS, ” Tyler tweeted, then adding. “Hahaha, why won’t someone who loves him tell him NO. ” Hey, at least he pointed out that he was going to delete those tweets afterwards.
Critics-Positive No one knows more about media, controversy and mixed reviews than rap’s most infamous bad boy Eminem. His latest single, “Rap God” is being lauded for his lyrical mastery. However, as usual, he goes in for the jugular with the lyrics. He’s still Eminem; always surrounded by controversy due to his ever-popular, humorously offensive lyrics. On Oct. 14 at midnight, the “Slim Shady” rapper took to Twitter to announce the early You. Tube premiere of the audio for his highly anticipated single “Rap God. ” He also tweeted of the record’s official i. Tunes release just hours later.
Legacy Not only has he collaborated with the who’s who of the industry, from Snoop Dogg and Jay Z to Kanye and Lil’ Wayne, but more often than not, he’s out-rapped them. He’s the only rapper with two albums to be certified diamond and the first rapper to win an Oscar. Since “My Name is” he’s proven worthy of belonging on hip-hop’s Mount Rushmore by rapping about what he knows, whether that be mountains of ‘shrooms or wanting to throw his ex-wife into a trunk of a car while his daughter rode shotgun.
