FOREIGN LANGUAGE ARTS, MUSIC & MOVEMENT Spanish I & II | $360 [K, 1 -5] Capoeira | $185 [K, 1 -5] We believe that learning a foreign language in elementary school is an essential part of a child’s education and development. Students will learn vocabulary related to a variety of everyday themes, practice using it within sentences, and master many useful phrases. Program uses a full-immersion approach. We will offer kindergarten, Spanish I & Spanish II level classes. Students are encouraged to think logically and creatively, while getting immediate feedback on their decision-making. Class is a one hour format beginning with a 15 minute lesson using a large demonstration wall board covering all aspects of chess tactics and strategy. Cooking | $305 [2 -5] Join Holden Bussey in the Emerson Kitchen and learn to cook great tasting, healthy meals. We focus on simple, delicious, nutritional, and cultural recipes that allow plenty of room for our aspiring chefs to add their own creative twist. Knife skills and kitchen safety are key topics. Note: Cost includes all food Broadway Music & Dance | $205 [K, 1 -5] Sing, Dance, Act! Led by our highly-skilled teaching artists, students in this after-school class will learn songs and dances from some of Broadway’s most popular musicals and collaborate as a group to write the script for a short story linking these songs. The students will perform their creation in a show that will take place in the last 30 minutes of the final class. http: //bactheatre. org | Email: hannah@bactheatre. org 2 D Art & Sculpture | $220 [K, 1 -5] Explore a variety of 2 D art (drawing, painting, collage) and experimental craft and sculpture in a variety of media. Kids who love making their ideas come to life will have a blast in this after school studio experience. Kala’s Artists-in-Schools (AIS) program connects professional artists, many from our Artist-In. Residence Program, with K-12 students and teachers throughout the East Bay. www. kala. org/education/ | Email: classes@kala. org Fiber Arts | $220 [K, 1 -5] These hands-on classes introduce students to the wonderful world of fiber arts. Our Kindergarten session will explore mostly natural materials, such as cotton, wool, linen and recycled materials and lots of different yarns. In the upper level sessions, students get into sewing, embroidery, printing, stenciling, braiding, weaving and more to create art objects and wearable accessories such as a painted pouch or embroidered pillow, a lavender sachets, a soft sculpture, a bracelet, a stenciled banner, a circular weaving and lots more. Birgit Gehrt | Email: birgitgehrt@yahoo. com Choir | $185 [K-5] This program will focus on tone, pitch and quality of sound. It will encompass cultural and holiday songs and learning percussion rhythms. Students will learn the joy of singing, especially for those just introduced to it. Music is traditional and simple. Music has movement and is meant to be fun. Games will be used to encourage participation. Program will include percussive instruments to establish rhythm in the body and learn how rhythm works in music. For our final performance, the children will select the songs. Rhonda Crane | Email: sfrhonda@yahoo. com The Riffs [4 -5] open to grade 3 space permitting The Riffs is an after-school show choir that empowers students to perform the music that speaks to them. By engaging their minds with the music they select themselves, and engaging their bodies with dances they help create, students will push themselves to new heights with their own final showcase performance at the end of the session. 4 th and 5 th grade students may sign up for one or two days a week. Drop off completed forms in the PTA Enrichment Program box. HOW TO PAY FOR CLASSES Once class enrollments have been confirmed, you will receive an invoice by email for all of your family’s classes. We encourage families to pay with a debit or credit card using the emailed link rather than a check. If you need to pay by check, please use PTA payment box in the office and let us know at emersonenrichment@gmail. com.
