Introduction This brochure contains information to help our employees in the event of a disaster. Review the information and keep this brochure handy for future reference. Emergency responders are assigned in each building. These individuals are typically trained for maintaining order, determining safe-zones, and performing rescue and evacuation. Follow there instructions! When a Disaster Occurs v. Think before you act. v. Be a calming influence on those around you. v. Listen for instructions. Follow your plan. v. Check for and treat injuries. v. Locate emergency kit in the facility’s kitchen v. Check for damage, fires, and other hazards. v. Don’t light matches or candles. v. Don’t turn on electrical switches. v. Locate your location’s DMT contact. v. Stay informed by listening to a battery-powered radio, and follow instructions issued by authorities. v Don’t call 911 unless a Life or Death emergency. Explosion and Fire Safety v If you hear an explosion nearby, take cover under a desk or sturdy table, away from falling items. v. Stay away from windows. Then exit the building as quickly as possible. v. If there’s a fire, stay low, cover your nose and mouth with a cloth, and seek a safe escape route, away from heat or flames. v. If you are trapped in debris, cover your mouth with a handkerchief or clothing to avoid breathing dust. v. Use a flashlight or whistle to signal to rescuers, or tap on a pipe or wall. v. Avoid unnecessary movement so that you don’t kick up dust. (If you shout, you may inhale dangerous amounts of dust. ) v. Locate emergency kit in the facility’s kitchen Evacuation Safety Evacuating or Shelter in Place v. Listen to the instructions of the first response wardens. v. Use the stairs and stay to the right to leave a clear path for emergency response personnel. v. Take your immediate belongings only if time permits. v. Move to your prearranged meeting place. v. If you are instructed to ‘shelter in place, ’ Stay indoors, close all windows and all doors, and turn off ventilation systems. v. Be sure to have emergency supplies in the shelter-in-place location v. Do not leave your sheltered location or evacuation meeting place until instructed to do so by bank saftey wardens.
