Sharing Your Utopia Part One: Travel Brochure and Poster Choose six characteristics about ‘your utopia’ that you will describe in your travel brochure and poster. You may choose from the following characteristics or add characteristics of your own: Beliefs Gender roles Rules/laws Education Dining Maps Sightseeing Free time rights of individuals arts & entertainment average climate medical facilities type of government manner of dressing creating families family structure treatment of various ages ways professions are chosen available transportation park &recreation programs calendar of events crime & punishment rates entertainment celebrations & rituals

You must include descriptions for each of the following and address why Your Utopia is better than Jonas’ community: A. Economy - How jobs are earned/determined. How is poverty dealt with? B. Families - How many immediate family members are there? How many generations of families are allowed? How are families decided? C. Transportation - How do people travel inside and between communities? D. Law & Order - How is peace maintained? What consequences are there for broken rules? How is the government determined? E. Environment - What is the geography, climate, and vegetation like? F. Education - Who receives it? How long are people educated? Is it voluntary or mandatory? G. Students will spent 5 min. in class (timed) online @ googleimages. com Searching “travel brochures” and “travel posters” for research & to generate ideas for ‘your utopia’ brochure and poster. ü skim sources and take notes on what type of information is included. Ex. map, average climate, population, sightseeing, available transportation, , arts, entertainment, dining, parks, and programs etc. ü Students will create a rough sketch of travel poster using ideas and examples from research. Students will review “My Perfect World” frame poem

Questions for Guidance & Reflection What kind of information do travel guides, brochures, and posters usually include? What seems to be the purpose of a travel guide, brochure, and poster? What additional information would you provide if you were letting others know about your own perfect community? Sketch a rough draft of a travel poster. Be sure to include both picture and words.
