“SILENT PERIOD” Can last from just a few days to several months or even

“SILENT PERIOD” Can last from just a few days to several months or even a year This period does not just bring discomfort to the student but also the teacher The student is not just concerned with learning the content, communication with other students and teachers but also understanding the socio-cultural framework of the school. The teacher in most cases is concerned that not enough is being done for the student due to the silent/no feedback.

MYTHS 1. 2. Students can learn English quickly by being exposed to and surrounded by native language speakers! The ability to converse comfortably in English signals proficiency and means the child should be achieving academically. 3. Students should learn English before attempting to study an academic subject in that language. 4. ELL students should stop speaking their native language and concentrate on speaking English.
