Would I recommend the program? Based on the article Sharing with Latino Parents, I would not recommend this program. The program she seem is describing sounds very basic and state implemented. It doesn’t sound like anyone is going above and beyond for these families or students. In the article it is explained to communicate with families both in person with bilingual staff and over the phone and writing. The classroom teacher did not have any examples of communicating with parents in any form.
Would I recommend this Program? (Cont. ) In Involving Latino Families in Schools, Gaitan says, “non-traditional activities are more apt to be codesigned by parents and teachers and involve parents as active participants” (p. 19) The program at View Ridge Elementary seems very traditional and only involves parents on particular evenings.
