Elephants have tusks and a trunk. It weighs 5, 000 to 14, 000 lbs. It grows to be 8 -13 feet tall. A elephants are the largest land animal on earth. Elephants are so large! 3

Elephants live in Africa and Asia in the woods. They live on the west side of the earth. There home looks like the forest. You would find watering holes , fruit trees , and grass. Elephants are not nocturnal. I would not like to live in the woods because there is a lot of prey. 4

Elephants are prey, but they are so large that they are safe. Elephants eat plants, grass, fruit, and bark. They are herbivores. They eat 300 pounds per day. Elephants migrate. They search for food in the desert, too. 5

Elephants have important adaptations. They have to migrate to stay alive and find food and water. They protect themselves and their families from humans because humans kill them and take their tusks. That’s sad. They survive in higher temperatures too. 6

Baby elephants are called calves. They weigh about 200 pounds. They live in a group called a herd. Elephants live up to 70 years and stay together. 7

The character traits of elephants are determined and smart. Elephants migrate to look for food or a mate. That can take a long time. They have a good memory and can remember where the best watering holes are. 8

We are like elephants because we are mammals too. They live with their family their whole life. We have live babies like elephants. Calves suck on their trunks, human babies suck their thumbs! 9

Elephants have very long noses/trunks, we have short noses. They have tails, humans don’t. Elephants use their trunks to show affection and give hugs, we use our arms. Elephants are pregnant for 22 months, humans are 9 months. 10
