Progress with Beam ELENA Commissioning AD/ELENA Installation Follow-up, 15 th October 2020
Progress with Beam q Source operated in pulsed mode at 100 ke. V with less gaz flow: u Improved position stability, acceptable intensity fluctuation u Systematic studies of ring optics and LNS-LNI on-going q Beam threading into LNE 00 through the ion switch and the lines: u Beam seen on profiles monitors till end of LNE 04 (just before valve to ALPHA) u Clear effect of the ion switch → ion switch pulse length adjusted u Quad and dipole settings at nominal u All grids IN along the line → enough signal at the very end of the line q In parallel of beam threading in the new lines, setting-up of tools in LNE 50 u Starting optics commissioning u Beam observed by Gbar on their 2 ELENA Commissioning AD/ELENA Installation Follow-up, 15 th October 2020
ELENA lines commissioning progress with beam by TE-ABT q LNS-LNI, source beam characterization u Uses injection ring BTV screen u Quadrupole scan to extract beam parameters u Analysis ongoing - complex phase space distribution q LNE 50 u Uses first profile monitor BSG u Quadrupole scan to extract beam parameters u Simpler phase space distribution ~ Gaussian u Horizontal measurement could make use of longitudinal manipulation to reduced the extracted beam momentum spread to a minimum q Fast deflectors u Ring and line fast deflector beam-based pulse shape measurement is ongoing. ELENA lines commissioning progress with beam by TE-ABT q LNE 00, 01, . . . u Many q q BSG have missing wires § Example of BSG 0038 horizontal plane § 7 wires with no signal § 5 wires with ~low signal u Ongoing systematic measurement Beam is scanned across the BSG to qualitatively determine the wires to exclude from beam size measurement u Quadrupole scan to measure the extracted beam parameters to follow this week Remarks u 5 missing wires if not all in the center are not a blocking point because each grid plane has 45 § But needs to be excluded from analysis to get good estimation of the beam size & centroid § Current variations in beam intensity between cycles does not permit a quantitative estimate of each wire's response u Sufficient reproducibility of beam sizes despite significant shot-to-shot intensity variations Beam reaching the end of APLHA line using nominal strength predicted by the model 15 th ELENA Commissioning AD/ELENA Installation Follow-up, October 2020
Other Observations, Outlook. . . q Electrostatic elements: u Problem on ZQNA. 0735 fixed last week by applying current directly on the electrode u Problem to power LNE 03. QDNE 17: need to slowly increase voltage to reach nominal → will be investigated by ABT/EPC q Profile monitors: u IN/OUT boards installed u Installation of modified electronics on LNI monitor q Operational procedures approved: u ALPHA and Gbar beam stopper opened u Fast deflector to BASE also unlock, will start extraction on Wednesday q Movement system of BTV 118 out of order u Screen now blocked in IN-position u Very serious issues – repair takes weeks (preparations, installation inside vacuum, bake-out of long sector) u Can we work without BTV 118 (using profile monitor LNI. BSGW 55 instead) u Impact on use of similar BTV 117 as EIS-b!! Thanks: - to Laurette and Yan n for providing slides q Excellent and fast progress during last ten day and a serious issue to deal with - to everybody for all the work and effo rts - and your at tention Installation Follow-up, 15 th ELENA Commissioning AD/ELENA October 2020
