1. Antecedent Action • Before the story begins, there is a “Back Story” • This is needed by the audience to understand reasons for future events • This is alluded to and sometimes explained in The Exposition

2. Exposition • • • Usually near the beginning of any story Characters are introduced Setting is described Antecedent Action is communicated Main Conflict (Inciting Incident) is presented

3. Inciting Incident • This usually occurs at the end of The Exposition • This is the event that causes the Protagonist to set goal(s) and leads to all future events in the plot

4. Rising Action • This part of the story begins to develop the conflict(s) • A building of interest or suspense occurs

5. Climax • This is the turning point of the story • Usually the main character faces the main conflict • The main character will change in some way
