Electronics : Input - Process - Output Learning Intention: Investigate three stages of electronic devices Success Criteria: I can name three stages that make up all electronic devices. I can choose an electronic device and describe which component of the device would be used for each stage.
The 3 stages in Electronic devices • There are many electronic devices in our homes. • These devices may be simple or complex. • All electronic devices are designed in the same way: by looking at the device as a whole system.
Activity 1 - Notes Designing an Electronic System • All electronic systems have 3 stages INPUT PROCESS OUTPUT e. g. A CALCULATOR KEYPAD PROCESSOR DISPLAY
Activity 2 Read the passage and answer the question that follows in your class notebook page. There are many electronic devices in our homes. These devices may be simple or complex. All electronic devices are designed in the same way: by looking at the device as a whole system. All electronic systems have 3 stages: · Input · Process · Output.
1. Name three stages found in all electronic devices.
What are the 3 stages for a LAPTOP? INPUT PROCESS OUTPUT keyboard -> processor -> display
What are the 3 stages for a KARAOKE MACHINE? INPUT PROCESS OUTPUT microphone -> amplifier -> loudspeaker
Activity 3 Copy and paste the following table into your class notebook page: Device Calculator Radio Computer Input Process Output
Determine the correct input, process and output stages to build a a calculator, a radio & a computer and type these into your table. INPUT STAGES KEYPAD AERIAL KEYBOARD PROCESS STAGES RADIO CIRCUIT BOARD COMPUTER PROCESSOR CALCULATOR CIRCUIT BOARD OUTPUT STAGES FLATSCREEN DISPLAY LCD DISPLAY LOUDSPEAKER
Activity 4 Read the passage and answer the questions that follow in your class notebook page. Each stage has its own function. The input stage of an electronic system creates an electrical signal from another form of energy. The process stage of an electronic system will process information, do calculations or “make decisions” based on the information it gets from the input stage. The output stage of an electronic system will receive an electrical signal and react to it. For example, when using a calculator the input is the keypad, the process is the processor inside doing the calculation and the output is the numbers on the display screen.
1. For a karaoke machine; what is the a) input stage? b) process stage? c) output stage? 2. For a laptop; what is the a) input stage? b) process stage? c) output stage? 3. Choose your own device and list the input, process and output stages it uses. There may be more than one for each stage, try to think of as many as you can.
