Make sure to assign your documents to programs. Your personal statement(s), LOR’s, USMLE transcript, and photograph are assigned to programs according to your instructions.

Your Responsibilities • Research residency programs and contact them for information on deadlines or requirements. Confirm they are participating in ERAS 2020 • Print or e-mail Lo. R requests and distribute them to your letter writers. • Track your documents through the Documents section. • Upload your ERAS photo. • Keep your profile up-to-date, request updated USMLE scores and make changes to program selections. You will have to go back into ERAS to release any new USMLE scores that come in. • Pay all fees.

Personal Statements • We recommend that you create your personal statements in a text

Personal Statements • We recommend that you create your personal statements in a text file. The way you create a text file is click on 'Start' menu on the desktop, under 'All Programs' click 'Accessories', click 'Notepad'. • Change the font to Courier New 10 and type your text. Although you have up to 28, 000 characters you can use, we suggest that you limit your personal statement to 600 -700 words. • Do not use any special characters such as bold, italics, underlines, &, ñ, µ , @, #, % etc. Your document will be displayed in plain text.

Enter a title in the ‘title’ field. 3. Copy/paste into the content field 4. Click ‘Save’ 5. Carefully review your personal statement and click ‘OK’ * You will be able to edit your personal statement prior to assigning it to a program.

Letters of Recommendation (Lo. Rs) • The title/department is too long to fit in the field given? What do I do? You may need to abbreviate. • My letter writer has several titles? Which one do I put in ERAS? If your letter writer has several titles, you should use the title of their highest rank. • Should I wait to submit my application for all of my LOR's to come in? Do not wait for your LORs to come in before submitting. Submit on September 15 th, and the letters will come in when they come in. • What do I do if two people sign the letter? Use the highest ranking faculty member. • How will I know when Lo. R is uploaded so that I can assign it to programs? you will receive notification in the My. ERAS center for each Lo. R that is uploaded by your Lo. R authors. And a copy of this notification will also be sent to the email address listed in your My. ERAS

Letters of Recommendation (Lo. Rs) • In order to assign Lo. Rs to programs, Lo. R Authors must be finalized in the Documents/Lo. R tab. • Lo. R selections will be locked upon assigning to and applying to a program. You will not be able to unassign it, so be careful! • Once the maximum number of four (4) Lo. Rs have been assigned to any given program that you applied to, additional Lo. R assignments cannot be made during the application season • An applicant may only change their selection prior to applying to a program. • Once a letter has been uploaded, it cannot be edited or deleted. • Letter writers can upload over an older letter if there is a mistake. Programs will only be able to view the most recent version of an Lo. R.

National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) • Provides an impartial venue for matching applicants' preferences for residency positions with program directors' preferences for applicants. • Each year approximately 16, 000 U. S. medical school seniors use the program. • The NRMP accommodates couples entering the Match. Let the OSA Deans know you are couples matching!! Visit the couples match page. • Registration opens on September 15, 2019. • There is a $30 charge per program ranked over the first 20.

If you are offered an interview by a program, respond immediately, as interview slots can fill quickly. • The program you match with generally provides pre-urology training. • Applicants are no longer required to register with NRMP to obtain the PGY-1 year of training.

ERAS application, select programs of interest, assign all documents to each individual program. (Do this as documents are available instead of waiting for everything to be in for a given program) Beginning of September - Review MSPE for errors, deadline for photo. September 15 - Certify and submit application. You should begin applying to residency programs and programs will begin contacting ERAS. (Everything should be in except maybe one or 2 Lo. Rs). Register with NRMP. October 1 - MSPE’s released to programs (Lo. Rs should be received prior to this date) December - Military Match results are available January 11 – SF Match (Ophthalmology) results available Mid - January– Urology Match results available Late February– Deadline for registration and rank order list certification March 16* - Match results are available, Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program (SOAP) begins March 20– Match Day! *Projected SOAP & Match Dates
