El Presente Progresivo The Present Progressive
El Presente Progresivo • The present progressive is formed by combining the verb “to be” (estar) with the present participle. (The present participle is merely the “-ing” form of a verb. ) Example: -My father is cleaning the house. -Mi padre está limpiando la casa.
El Presente Progresivo -In English, present progressive can be used to describe what is happening now, or what will happen in the future. Examples: I am studying now. (what is happening now). I am studying with María tonight. (what will happen in the future). -In Spanish, the present progressive is only used to describe an action that is in the process of taking place. It is not used for future actions. Examples: I am studying now. (Yo estoy estudiando ahora) I am studying with María tonight. (Yo estudiaré con Maria esta noche).

El Presente Progresivo Remember, only use the present progressive for actions that are “in progress. ” Compare the uses of the present indicative with the uses of the present progressive. (right now) It is important to remember that you would never use the present progressive in Spanish to talk about what you are going to do in the future. Use the present progressive only for actions that are “in progress. ”
