El Modo Indicativo üHabla de hechos üHabla de certidumbre üHabla de la realidad The indicative mood is used to speak about acts, certainty, reality. We have studied all the indicative tenses: Present I dance. I am dancing. I do dance Imperfect I was dancing. I used to dance. Preterite I danced a lot last night. Future I will dance the Tango in Argentina. Conditional I would dance if I went to the Prom. Present Perfect I have danced my heart out! Past Perfect I had danced for 3 hours when the music stopped. Future Perfect I will have danced with everyone before I leave. Conditional Perfect I would have danced if my shoes were comforatble.

“If” clauses l Conditional sentences… because the “if” provides a condition for the action of the verb in the dependent clause to occur: l If (something), (then) (something). l The “if” clause can come before the main clause or after it: l If you go, I’ll go. or I’ll go if you go.

Sequence of tenses l Follow the table on the next slide as a general rule to know which tense to use in a sentence. l Some exceptions or broader sequences will also be possible as discussed in class. l The relationship between the action of the main clause and that of the subordinate clause will determine which tenses you will use.
