“IZMIR: The capital of the region ” Izmir is the third largest city in Turkey. • • Izmir has a well developed industrial and commercial potential. • It has the second biggest export and import harbour and is located at the junction of the main highways to other major cities. • There are 3 Industrial Parks, 5 Universities and the Aegean Free Trade Zone.
Established in 1955 currently consists of: • 11 Faculties – – – • • • Medicine Dentistry Pharmacy Engineering Science Letters Communication Economic and Administrative Sciences Fisheries Agriculture Education 5 Four-year Schools, 8 Two-year Vocational Training Schools, 7 Institutes and 21 Research and Application Centers. The University also has: – A Library – A Cultural and Convention Center – A Natural History Museum – An Observatory – A Publishing House – An Olympic Swimming Pool – A Sports Center – Botanical Gardens – Housing Facilities for Personnel – Dormitories for Students The best university in the country in total mobility actions under Erasmus Programme.
Science and Technology Center (EBILTEM): established in 1994 to “bridge the gap between the industry and the university” The Aegean Region Innovation Relay Centre IRC-EGE, an EU funded project, is being coordinated by EBILTEM is also the “Regional Contact Point” within the NCP Network. Through its coordination of information dissemination activities a 20% success rate has been achieved by Ege University. In comparison with the 15% success rate for Turkey, Ege University has been remarkably successful in FP 6. Ege University has 19 FP 6 projects (3 CA, 2 ETI, 2 IP, 1 Marie Curie (To. K), 5 SSA, 5 STREP, 1 No. E) of which EBILTEM takes part in 2 ETI and 3 SSA projects. EBILTEM one of the six Mobility Centers in Turkey established for the first time in December 2004. “Aegean Mobility Center” is an integral part of ERA-MORE Network and European Researchers’ Mobility Portal.
