Effects of Electromyographic biofeedback on Physical Therapy A
Effects of Electromyographic biofeedback on Physical Therapy A. Goals: • • • Design a system using modern sensor technology to improve the effectiveness of physical therapy. Select and implement sensors to provide vitals and other medical data that can processed and used by health care providers and patients. Provide a easy to use interface that can give users easy access and understanding of medical variables, regardless of the level of knowledge. B. Brief Description: • The goal of the system is to gather muscle activity data during physical therapy exercises for the use of biofeedback. The system allows patients to have real time information about how well they are performing a particular exercise. C. Heights of Achievement: • • • Successful build of a prototype that gathers and processes Electromyographic signals. Interface with tablet and other Android devices to give the user an enhanced experience. Creation of a patient database system. D. Problems/Concerns that prevent your progress: • • Signal Fidelity: Much of the muscle signal is lost before reaching the surface of the skin. Signal is significantly attenuated during travel through tissue. Ease of exercise while wired sensors are attached to various parts of the body.
