What is the Arctic ice cap? • A polar ice cap is a high altitude region of land or water that is covered in ice
Why is the Arctic Ice cap melting? • The reason the Arctic ice caps are melting is because of global warming. The average temperature in the arctic is rising twice as fast as anywhere else. Over the decades its been proven that the temperatures getting hotter which is causing the ice to melt faster. Another reason is theirs to much carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
How does the melting ice cap affect the extraction of oil, natural gas and minerals? The more the sea level rises the harder it will get to extract oils and minerals When the ice melts the oil rigs move in and if they find oil it will cause a massive oil rush. After that there's not much time before there is an accident that will cause a massive oil rush, and not long after that it would cause a biosphere disaster not only would it affect the biosphere it would mean more oil being extracted and oil being burned and oil being extracted and putting CO 2 in the atmosphere which will make the ice melt faster.
How does the melting ice cap affect the rate or erosion and weathering in coastal areas? Well it can put the city's underwater since when water heats up it expands. So if all the ice melted the sea level would rise. If the ice sheets melt completely global sea level could rise at least 20 feet. Which can cause city's to evacuate leaving a bunch of people homeless Scientists fear that the Arctic melt down has started a dramatic change in the planet’s swirling atmosphere, causing extreme weather in populated areas to the boil.
How is the sustainability of the geosphere affected by the melting of the arctic ice caps? The pressure on the Earths mantle to increasing the magnum production and volcanic eruption.
How can the melting of the Arctic ice cap affect effect climate in other parts of the world? • The entire water can get warmer at a rapid rate. The reason for that is because ice is very reflective it reflects the light back into space. When the ice cap starts melting it reflects less heat which means a lot of heat well be absorbed causing it to become warmer. Also by the ice melting its adding more water which cause there to be more water vapor, which means it could cause a ton more storms.
How could the melting of the arctic ice cap contribute to carbon in the atmosphere • Ice reflects sunlight better than open water does. Since the ice caps are melting its causing the water to absorb the sun rays, which is equivalent to about 20 years of additional CO 2 being added.
How is the sustainability of the atmosphere affected by the melting of the arctic ice cap? • It affects the sustainability it because once the ice melts it doesn’t reflect the heat rays back into space, so there is a lot more CO 2 which cause the water to heat up.
How will Greenland's Ice sheet be affected by the Arctic Ice cap melt? As the Arctic Ice cap melts and the hydrosphere becomes more unsustainable, Greenland's ice sheet is greatly affected. When the temperature of the air increases it will lead to Greenland's ice sheet to melt.
What effects will the changes to Greenland's ice sheets have on the hydrosphere? • As Greenland's ice sheet melts the sea level rises and the hydrosphere becomes more unstainable. The temperature of the water will also rise a lot. Which can destroy a lot of animal habitats.
Greenland • If Greenland ice sheets were to melt there would be a sea level rise of around 20 feet which is a lot. It could flood homes and cause major issues. • Greenland has become roughly 20°C warmer than it once was. Ice cores in Greenland also revealed that it has gotten approximately 7°C warmer in a few decades. Greenland ice cores are making the water warmer.
How have animals such as polar bears, whales, walruses, and seals been affected? • Since it could get very hot it would mess up animal habitats and their migration. The polar bears use the ice as hunting ground its their habitat and without it they will either have to migrate or go extinct. They other animals will also lose there homes and hiding places so in some ways you could say we might have a mass extinction.
How does the melting ice cap affect hunting and fishing by Aboriginal people? • Aboriginal people will lose there hunting grounds and will have to leave the ice which is part of there territory, homes, and place of hunting for food.
How is the sustainability of the biosphere affected by the melting of the Arctic ice caps? • The water is home to a lot of marines and the land life will not stand a chance at survival if the ice caps continue to melt. Ice caps help regulate global temperatures. Also the salinity and sea level. So without them the hydrosphere would not be sustainable
How does the melting of the Arctic ice cap show that the Earth's spheres are interconnected? • It shows that all Earths spheres are interconnected because if one of the spheres change all of them change. It could be a big change or a small change.
Do you think the melting of the Arctic ice cap could be considered a global problem? Why or why not? • I believe that this a global problem because it will effect a lot of animals, people, and places. The sea levels will rise and flood a lot of places in the coastal regions. It will also cause storms and lot of lighting. Also the majority of our fresh water source will flow and end up mixed with the ocean.
