Key messages from the water chapter • In EECCA significant decline in water quality monitoring over the last 15 years. incl. Water supply and sanitation. • Some stabilisation since early ‘ 90 s due to brake down of industries • Total water abstraction in the region has decreased by more than 20 % during the last 15 years. • Since the late 1990 s the annual water uses by agriculture, energy cooling and industry have remained nearly constant. • Severe problems concerning droughts and floods hit also the EECCA and SEE region. This is expected to be increased under climate change
