4. JUUNI - EESTI LIPU PÄEV ON EESTI VABARIIGI RIIKLIK TÄHTPÄEV 4. juunil 1884 ( vana kalendri järgi 23. mail 1884) õnnistati Eesti lipu emalipp Otepääl Eesti Üliõpilaste seltsi lipuna. The 4 th of June - Estonian Flag Day is a national holiday of the Republic of Estonia. On the 4 th of June in 1884 (old calendar 23 May 1884) the Estonian Flag’s „Motherflag“ was consecrated in Otepää as the flag of the Estonian Students’ Society.

RIIGILIPP 24. veebruaril 1918 kuulutati sinimustvalgete lippude lehvides välja Eesti Vabariik. 12. novembril või 12. detsembril 1918 heisati sinimustvalge lipp esimest korda Toompeale Pika Hermanni torni tippu. 21. novembril 1918 määras Ajutine Valitsus sinimustvalge lipu Eesti riigilipuks, mis ajast peale võeti lipp ametlikult riigilipuna kasutusele.

NATIONAL FLAG In 1918 the flag became the Estonian flag. The tricolour has since become one of the most symbols in the independence and solidarity of the Estonian people. At the end of 1918 the tricolour was the first time on the top of Pikk Hermann’s tower. Since the 21 st of November 1918 the Estonian tricolour is the Estonian official national flag.

SINI-MUST-VALGE S i n e - väljendab usku ja lootust eesti rahva tulevikku, samuti on see ustavuse sümboliks. M u s t - meenutab eesti rahva sünget minevikku, kodumaa musta mulda, luuletustes on musta peetud armastuse sümboliks. V a l g e - sümboliseerib eesti rahva püüdeid hariduse ja vaimuvalguse poole, samuti talvist valget lund, suviseid valgeid öid, Eesti kaskede valget koort.

THE BLUE-BLACK-WHITE BLUE - expresses faith and hope of the Estonian people to the better future, also it is a symbol of faith. BLACK - has to remind the Estonian people's grim past and the black soil of the homeland; in the poems black is considered as a symbol of love. WHITE – is a symbol of the Estonians’ education and enlightenment, as well white is snow in winter and white nights of the Estonian summer, also it expresses the white bark of the Estonian birches.

ERILISELT TAVALINE Maailma riikidest vähem kui kümnendikul on lipp üle 100 aasta vana. Veel haruldasem on see, et esimene lipp on alles. SOMETHING SPECIAL Less than one tenth of the world's countries have a flag over 100 years old. Extremely rare - the first flag still exists!
