Educational Research & Evaluation Team Nicky Andrew (ERE Research Lead) Karen Mac. Farlane (ERE Research Fellow) Colin Milligan (ERE Research Fellow) Julie Brown (ERE Researcher) Our goal is to support educational research and scholarly activity in pedagogy, practice and policy at institutional level in partnership with the academic schools. Our key driver is the 2020 Student Experience Action Plan

My background • Joined the University in 2007 (to support educational communities) • Role evolved into a fully research focused role (in Caledonian Academy). • Research focus on workplace learning - (Shell, Chartered Institute of Securities and Investments) Massive Open Online Courses • Moved back to original role in Aug 2016 with reorg of GCU LEAD into Department of Academic Development and Quality

Areas of Activity • Scholarship in Learning and Teaching: act as a hub for cross-university network of staff interested in educational research and evaluation. • Education Research: evidence based approaches to T&L improvements. • Impact Evaluation: produce evidence of efficacy of strategic institutional priority activities. 6

Activities • Articulating the role of scholarly approaches to T&L in supporting innovation in T&L. • Providing coherence for Education Research activities across the University • Supporting 2020 Student Experience Scholarships • Undertaking Impact Evaluation 7

Activities: engagement • Liaise with existing communities: – School Educational Research Groups, – Education focused Prof. D Students. • Develop institution wide community. • Develop links with PVC-R, ADRs. 13

Activities: support • Identifying and collecting information about opportunities and developments in the field. • Share and model good practice in scholarly approaches to Learning & Teaching /Education Research – journals, peer review, methods, etc. • Seminars, • Newsletters, • Drop-in sessions. 14
