Revealing the Father • How does the author of Hebrews describe the revelation of God through His Son? (Heb 1: 1 -3) • How does John describe Jesus in the introduction to his gospel? (John 1: 13, 14, 18) • What other texts can you recall where inspired Scripture points to Jesus as the one who best reveals the character of the Father to us? – – – John 10: 30 John 14: 9 2 Cor 4: 4 2 Cor 4: 6 Col 1: 15 John 8: 29

Loving the Lost • What problem was the apostle Paul trying to deal with as he writes chapter 2 of his letter to the Philippians? (Phil 2: 2 -3) • What was Paul’s remedy for such a situation? (Phil 2: 5 -8) • How did Jesus teach humility in this passage?

Reconciling Sinners • What does it mean to be reconciled? • Why do we need to be reconciled to God? • What is the key to reconciliation between sinners and God? (2 Cor 5: 17 -21) • The key to being reconciled to God is to be “in Christ. ” How can we be “in Christ? ” • What is the evidence that we are “in Christ? ” • What does it mean to you to be an ambassador for Christ?

Sending us • At the end of John’s gospel, how does Jesus send His disciples forward? (John 20: 21) • What do you think Jesus meant by these words? (“As the Father has sent me, I am sending you. ”)

Summary • Jesus claimed to have a special relationship with His Father in heaven that raised some questions with His disciples and opposition from the religious leaders. • He said, “I and my Father are one; If you have seen me you have seen the Father; I always do those tings that please Him. ” • The apostles testify to this unique relationship by writing that He is the image of the invisible God, that God’s glory is seen in His face, that He is the express image of God, that He declares the Father’s character to us. • So the inspired testimony of Jesus in the NT allows us to examine the character of Christ and know that it is an exact match to the character of our Father in heaven.

Summary • Paul’s epistles focus on the doing and dying of Jesus, what they mean for us, and how we should live in the light of them. • We are to be imitators of Christ and let His mind be in us. • While Christ’s teachings are important, what He did for us is even more important. • Actions speak louder than words. • Example is always clear. • The love and grace of our Lord are seen most clearly in what He did to step down from His throne in glory, to take upon himself the form of a servant, to humble himself and become obedient unto death even death on the cross. • So we learn by observing the Master Teacher.

Summary • The key to being reconciled to God is to be justified by having our sins forgiven and having the perfect righteousness of Christ placed to our account. • Having been reconciled, we become ambassadors for Christ urging others to be reconciled as well. • As the Father sent Jesus, so Jesus sends us. • As Jesus displayed the character of His Father, so we are to display the character of Christ. • As Jesus was sent to reconcile sinners, so we are sent to urge sinners to be reconciled. • Will you show your appreciation for what Jesus did for you by letting “this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus”?

Jesus Reveals the Father • I and my Father are one. (John 10: 30 KJV) • he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; (John 14: 9 KJV) • … the glory of Christ, who is the image of God… (2 Corinthians 4: 4 NKJV) • to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
