Standard Number Three: Learning Environments Description: The teacher works with others to create environments that support individuals and collaborative learning, and that encourage positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation. Rationale: This project helped us understandard 3: Learning Environments by getting us to work together as a group to look deeper into the Italian culture. We looked into the education system by looking at how they teach their youth in school.

So you want to teach in Italy? Pre-School & Primary School: Must have a 4 year degree. Secondary School -Graduate Degree -1 Year of specialization training after graduation (Italian Teaching Agency)
3 -5 year olds Children in Italy start school as early as age three! They can be put into pre-primay classes, almost like our preschool! (Stephens 132)
Structure Primary School: 5 Years, age 6 -11 Lower Secondary: 3 Years, age 11 -14 Upper Secondary: 5 Years, age 14 -19 Small Classrooms- 10: 1 Ratio (Global Road Warrior)
Structure Continued. . . High school is divided into different categories that focus on certain concentrations. For example: Liceo classico, Liceo scientifico, Liceo linguistico. -Classico is just classical high school -Scientifico focuses on math and science -Linguistico focuses on language (Global Road Warrior)

School, School runs from 2 nd week of September to 2 nd week of June. (3 whole months of summer? !) School runs from 8 am-1 pm, Monday-Saturday (EW!) School is broken into two terms: September to Mid. January and Mid-January to the end of school (Amore)
