Creating Action Plans that Address Spiritual Values in our Personal and Community Activities Adapted from the Appreciative Planning & Action (APA) Framework of Malcolm J. Odell, Jr. , Ph. D Washington, DC Education for Sustainable Development
Our Goals: • Share success stories • Inspire and learn from each other • Create personal action plans Education for Sustainable Development
Our Approach: Shift our questions and analysis from ‘What’s wrong? ’ & ‘How do we fix it? ’ to ‘What’s working? ’ & ‘How do we get more of it? ’ Education for Sustainable Development
Step 1: Individually, reflect on a time in your life or work when you were part of an inspiring, empowering experience related in some way to taking positive climate action Step 2: Now briefly share that story with a partner Education for Sustainable Development
Step 3 (form groups of four): • Introduce your partner to your group and briefly tell what inspired you about his/her action. • Identify a virtue or moral capability reflected in your partner’s story, and write it on the back of your partner’s name tag. Education for Sustainable Development
Step 4: Dream…of what would be even better What are you inspired to do next? Draw a picture that represents your goal. Include a few next steps. What can you do this week? 6 mo? 1 year? Write these steps on your picture or on the flipside. Share your picture and next steps with a partner from your group Education for Sustainable Development
