EDSGN 100 Section 001 Squirrels Pants Soup-A-Stars, Group 5 Lockheed Martin Vertical Mount USB Hub Shirley Banh, Dylan Kolb, Utsav Patel and Nicole Song Purpose of Modifications to current design Modification that can be made to Design The purpose of this project is to redesign a USB Hub Mounting bracket from a 4 port hub to a 7 port hub in order to increase connection capacity while reducing the number of parts. Additionally, it is necessary to produce a vertical mounting bracket to reduce space. One of the criteria that was needed in order to make the USB hub a viable product was it has to be able to hold 3 hub and to be mounted onto a vertical surface. A possible design choice to extend the mounting arms to accommodate for additional Hubs in whatever direction ti is needed Figure 3. Prototype of a preliminary 7 Vertical Mount Bracket What we have been given as examples Figure 1. Original Concept for 7 Port USB Hub, horizonally mounted Design Choices We created a variation of a vertical mount since it optimizes space while allowing the user to stack the 7 port drivers in place of the 4 port drivers utilizing the same space and cost. This design also allows for durability and portability. Additionally, with teh space that it can provide, we are able to add more ports to it Our examples that has been given to us were those consisting of many parts, However with our design, the internal components would not change, however for our overall body design will be reduced to have one main body and the screws needed to hold it in place. Figure 5. Side View of USB Hub Arm Overall side view of the vertical mount USB HUB with brackets Modifying the USB HUB from horizontal mount to vertical mount made it possible to have space for extra features such as the cable wire.
