Carnival/Carnevale • <carne> + <levare> – Latin for “Flesh” and “to put away” • Catholics would celebrate right before lent and eat as much meat as possible. • This was a celebration of food and drink and many would dress up for the festivities.
Catacombs • Christians in Rome, who were not allowed to practice their religion, would bury their dead underground. • Catacombs in France later served as a quick fix to a health issue. • They even served as hideouts during WWII!
