Eden Boys’ School, Preston Our curriculum emphasises the importance of intellectual study and focuses on learning and progress. We believe that this will best equip our pupils for the pathways that lead to university, the professions and success in whatever career they eventually choose. We are determined that our students will compete on equal terms with students coming from the most privileged circumstances. We provide our pupils with an academic, but rounded, education that gives them the best possible chance to succeed.
EBP Grading System
National Context • 2017 was the first year of 9 -1 grades in English and mathematics. This year was the first of the new GCSEs for nearly all other subjects (i. e. tougher exams, more content, the new 9 -1 grades and no coursework). In the new 9 -1 grading system: • Only around half of the students who previously got an A* were awarded the top Grade 9 • To achieve the English Baccalaureate was more challenging this year, as students now need a Grade ‘ 5’ in English, mathematics, science/ computer science, history/geography and a language.
Year 10 – which GCSEs and when? • 13 th May(RS Paper 1) • 20 th May (RS paper 2) • 3 rd June (Creative i. Media).
Which GCSEs and when? Pupils will complete GCSEs in: • English Language, English Literature • Maths • science (combined/ separate sciences) • French • History/ Geography • Computer science or Creative i. Media • Art/ PE/ Geography/ History in May/ June of year 11. In total, pupils will complete 9 or 10 GCSEs (dependent on whether they do combined or single sciences)
Year 9 – which GCSEs and when? Pupils have started their GCSE courses in all their subjects this year. The plan is to complete GCSEs in Religious Studies, Arabic/ French in year 10. Pupils will complete all other GCSEs in year 11. The situation will be reviewed after each data point to ensure the best outcome for the pupils.

Congratulations to our Year 11 Boys Eden Boys’ Preston Religious Studies Results • 96% of pupils achieved GCSE grade 4 and above (standard pass) • 89% of pupils achieved GCSE grade 5 and above (strong pass) • 52% of pupils achieved GCSE grade 7 and above (A/A*) • 6% of pupils achieved a GCSE grade 9 • Progress 8 score 1. 3
