Initial Step Activating Kaltura in Canvas “SETTINGS” • Click three-dots to "enable” My Media and Media Gallery • Enable adds to Canvas course menu My Media is where you can access your own media from within Canvas. Each user will only see media they have access to. Media Gallery is the place to share media with everyone in the course. Everyone will see the same media shared here 10

Case #1: Managing Video Content Saving (to Kaltura) from Zoom The integration allows you to record directly to Kaltura from Zoom. 11

Case #1: Managing Video Content Sharing Your Recording in Canvas If you want to share your recording with a class “as is” • Add it to the course Media Gallery (everything here is visible to everyone in the class) • From the Media tab of Media Gallery click “Add Media” • Check box of desired recording, • Then click “Publish” to share with class • Be aware it will take some time for Kaltura to process your video after it’s recorded and before you can share it 12

Case #1: Managing Video Content Editing Kaltura Recordings in Canvas There are two ways to edit your recordings in Kaltura: 1. Edit the video itself (e. g. trim) 2. Edit the video’s settings, associated files, and share/publish options 13

Case #1: Managing Video Content Editing Video Options From here you can add: • Add descriptions and tags (tags are important for organizing your videos since Kaltura does not use a folder system) • Attach files and set video download options • Sync PPTs to the video and add chapters • Upload captions (Note that requesting an auto-generated transcript is done on the video’s home page) • Be aware that some tabs have ”save” buttons and others don’t 14

Case #1: Managing Video Content Editing Video Media • You can make some very basic edits to your video within Kaltura. • Good for cutting out prolonged starts and ends of meetings (or something unnecessary in the middle) • Save as a Copy so you don’t accidentally lose anything • Edits may take a long time to save • Do edit: • Tags (add semester, course) • Thumbnail 15 • Collaborators

Case #2: More Instructor Presence Online Webcam Recording • • No software installation required Recorded videos are saved to your media so it’s easy to share them to additional and/or future courses 16

Case #2: More Instructor Presence Online Kaltura Capture • Kaltura Capture allows you to quickly and easily create videos • Recordings are higher quality than recording through Zoom • You must install a piece of software the first time run it • You must launch the software from your browser (not straight from your computer’s applications) • Can be launched directly from the Canvas rich text editor or your “My Media”

Case #2: More Instructor Presence Online Setting Video/Audio Sources • • • Kaltura Capture lets you record your screen, webcam, and microphone You can record 1 or 2 video sources and 1 audio source Use the dropdown arrows to set each source Click the source icon to toggle it on/off Annotate your screen while recording 18

Case #3: Flipping Your Class Lecture Capture Ed Glantz, SRA 111 (150 students); SRA 311 (110 students): • Streamed & Recorded Zoom meeting • Directly to cloud • Desktop sharing • Hosted in Canvas Media Gallery; playlist lesson organization; trim Set In/Set Out • Used for weather cancellations, illness, accident, interviews 19

Case #3: Flipping Your Class Add Reflection Points with Self-Checks and Pauses • • Create a new “Video Quiz” to add questions and pauses Can be made from an existing video or you can upload a new one Creates a new piece of media Can be tied to the Canvas Gradebook

Case #3: Flipping Your Class Analytics • Get general and user specific analytics for all your videos • For reliable analytics, students should view videos in Media Gallery rather than embedded on pages
