Ecosystem Solutions: Evaluation • Ecosystems around the world are being threatened. Each of the readings identifies a problem in an area, and a solution proposed to help solve the problem. • With your group (3 -4) • Read through the passage • Identify the following (do work in notebook): • • What was the initial problem? What solution was presented? How much does it cost/ how much will it save (if available) Who will pay for the solution/service Affect on the local community/ecosystem How well does the proposed solution work? Pros and Cons of solution (t-chart)
Creating your Presentation (group) • Include the following in your presentation: • Short title (in the gray box) • What is the problem/ solution • How much does it cost/ how much will it save (if available) • Who will pay for it • How it affects people/community • How it affects ecosystem • How well does the proposed solution work
During the gallery walks! (record for each group) • Short title (in the gray box) • What is the problem/ solution • Cost-Save/ who will pay • Affect to people/community +/ • Affect to ecosystem +/ • Effectiveness (how well it worked) AFTER PRESENTATIONS (with group) • Based on the evidence you were given for each scenario, work with your table group to determine which solution is the best. Rank them from 1 to 4, 1 being the best and 4 being the worst. Base your rankings on cost, benefits for humans and ecosystems, and effectiveness.
Scientific Explanation • Based on the evidence provided (cost, effectiveness, and affect on humans/ ecosystem) plus your group discussion (rankings) write a scientific explanation: Which solution presented is the best? CLAIM- Answer the Question EVIDENCE- Use the evidence you collected plus the evidence on the board to support your claim REASONING- How does your evidence support your claim
