What can Economics give you? • Economics helps students to understand the principles and forces that affect people in their everyday lives, in particular their roles as consumers and producers. • Giving students a more comprehensive understanding of contemporary issues facing Hong Kong and the mainland, as well as of the interdependence among regions and countries. • The study of economics is highly relevant and applicable to real-life situations.

In early 2015, the Council on Smoking and Health urged the government to raise the tobacco tax by 100% from $38 to $76 per pack of cigarettes in the next fiscal year. However, some owners of newsstands strongly oppose this suggestion as selling cigarettes is their main source of income. Although most of the cinemas increase the price of movie tickets during weekends, it is observed that there are long queues waiting outside the cinemas for buying tickets.
