Georgia Department of Labor: Unemployment Benefits The CARE Act has created new rules and regulations for Unemployment Benefits on virtually every level including changes to: weekly benefit amounts, maximum amount of weeks that a claimant is eligible, and types of eligible individuals (traditional employees vs. gig workers and/or self-employed via PUA: Pandemic Unemployment Assistance) Please note that during this time the Department of Labor is requiring the employer to file on behalf of the employee due to lack of work for temporary (partial) lay-offs. This will remove red-tape and streamline the process for both the employer and the employee. During this current crisis, the Department has waived the impact to the employer’s experience rating, thus assuring no increase in unemployment insurance taxes.
