Ecological System
Bronfenbrenner’s Social Ecology Model Ecological systems theory views the child or adolescent as developing within a complex system of relationships affected by multiple levels of the surrounding environment. The interacting systems that help explore communication, relationships and developmental characteristics are :
n The Microsystem – layer involves the immediate elements of the individual’s lives, such as family context, school, peers and friends.
n The Mesosystem – layer of connections between children's immediate settings such as involvement of parents to child’s development.
n The Exosystem – layer of social connections outside their immediate environment that nevertheless affect their experiences.
n The Macrosystem – layer includes cultural values, laws, customs, and resources that influence experiences and interactions at the inner levels of the environment.
n The Chronosystem – layer of temporal changes in children's environment which produce new conditions that affect development.
