Towards a CEFR for language teachers • Aim: increasing importance of language teacher competences; plethora of frameworks makes it difficult for teacher educators to navigate • Agreed outputs: analysis of existing tools with identifcation of gaps; navigation guide with examples of use; inventory of competences; consideration of need for a “CEFR” for language teachers • Achieved so far: flyer; Powerpoint; guide under way with collation, categorisation and initial analysis of tools; online survey to capture examples; presentations and piloting in 6 European countries www. ecml. at/teachercompetences

Developing language awareness in subject classes Aim: provide practical support for teachers in non-language specific subject disciplines and further disseminate the CEFR-based descriptors for maths and history (previous programme) Agreed outputs: tools for subject teachers to identify linguistic needs of their learners; examples of language supportive teaching materials for 12/13 -yearold learners in different subjects (e. g. mathematics, history, science) Achieved so far: online questionnaire with 236 responses – basis for workshop in November where further classroom material will be developed and uploaded to website

Language for work: tools for professional development Aim: to use network created in previous programme to share different approaches to developing migrants’ and refugees’ language competences for the workplace; to créate a framework to support profesional development of teachers Agreed outputs: quick guide to support integration of refugees; expandable compendium of approaches; resource bank with training materials Achieved so far: quick guide ready in English; huge bank of resources online; regional event in France (CIEP); presentation at conferences in Spain, Sweden, France, Germany and in New York!

Action research communities for language teachers Aim: to contribute to the improvement of language education by giving teachers across Europe better access to action research and new perspectives on languages methodologies Agreed outputs: practical guide to action research applicable in different European settings; development and piloting of training modules; case studies in several languages; online platform wtih resources for teachers and teacher trainers Achieved so far: small-scale action research projects being carried out by 2016 workshop participants (abstracts on website); 2 presentations at conferences in Austria in 2017; regional event planned in Iceland in 2018

Promoting excellence in sign language instruction Aim: to support the professionalisation of sign-language teachers; to build on work of Pro. Sign (1) and pilot the descriptors for learners Agreed outputs: a professionally-oriented competency framework for sign language teachers; a European language portfolio (ELP); B 2 level materials and learning activities from different European sign languages Achieved so far: European survey on sign language teaching curricula and competencies as basis for framework; adaptation and piloting of ELP for sign language; collation of examples of good practice in sign language assessment; presentation at ALTE and IDT conferences 2017; links to European Network of Sign Language Teachers established; keynote at conference in Washington; Pro. Sign 1 descriptors cited in new companion volume to the CEFR

Des environnements d’apprentissage optimisés pour et par les langues But : développer la formation générale et citoyenne de l’élève en plaçant les langues au cœur des enjeux éducatifs Centré sur les langues vivantes; approche systématique; démarche participative Réalisations attendues : création d’un réseau européen d’établissements scolaires; développement d’outils de médiation de recherche et d’un modèle environnemental dynamique avec des indicateurs de la qualité ; exemples concrets de projets linguistiques; parcours de formation en ligne Déjà réalisés : un réseau comportant 70 écoles de 13 pays européens; 2 webinaires; des projets en cours. La réputation du Conseil de l’Europe et du CELV sont un atout majeur

Vers une littératie numérique pour l’enseignement et l’apprentissage des langues But : former les enseignants à utiliser le numérique pour développer l’autonomie chez leurs apprenants de langue avec des tâches ancrées dans la vie réelle (Web. 2. 0) Réalisations attendues : un cadre didactique qui annonce les principes fondamentaux; des modules de formation en ligne; un guide d'animation de formations; des webinaires. Déjà réalisés : plateforme Moodle comportant 7 projet de modules de formation; projet de cadre pédagogique; présentations lors de plusieurs conférences internationales; 2 webinaires; grand atelier la semaine dernière avec 42 participants (31 états membres + Belgique, Royaume-Uni et Canada)

Une matrice qualité pour l’utilisation du CECR • But : maximiser le potentiel du CECR en développant une matrice d’assurance qualité pour faciliter sa mise en œuvre aux différentes étapes • Réalisations attendues : matrice dynamique permettant la création de profils graphiques dynamiques et tenant compte des aspects maîtrisés ou moins maîtrisés dans l’utilisation du CEFR pour planifier, enseigner et évaluer; une sélection de bonnes pratiques dans l’introduction du CECR démontrant une amélioration considérable de la compétence langagière effective Déjà réalisés : projet de matrice sur le site (en anglais); tutoriels créés; exemples de bonnes pratiques recueillies
