ECITB Scholarship Programme Adrian Wookey – Head of New Entrants
ECITB Scholarship • In order to mitigate the long-term effects of the Covid-19 crisis the ECITB has implemented a new entrant pipeline model the “ECITB Scholarship”. • Designed to ensure the Engineering Construction Industry (ECI) new entrant pipeline is sustained to prevent further shrinkage of the skills pool. • Aims to remove the burden of employers having to employ a learner by allowing them to undertake some of the necessary components of an Apprentice Standard/Framework, off the job in an approved centre without having to register on an actual Apprenticeship. • Should the learner not be placed on an Apprenticeship upon completion of the programme then they would still be site ready and technically competent, hence would be suitable for direct employment and thus still increase the available skilled labour resource pool. ECITB Scholarship • ECITB scholar graduates are not occupationally competent and should not be considered as being in competition with skilled and competent workers. • They will require a “Improvership” phase with the employer in the work place either through an Apprenticeship or as a direct site hire in order to be deemed occupational competent. • First English cohort of 133 learners on programme from September 2020 – June 2022.
