ECE B/CDA Intro

Teaching • You will teach 4 times this term. • 2 Tikes (toddler) • 2 Titan (preschool)

Lesson Plans • 2 days in the computer lab • 2 tikes, 2 titans • You must have a song and a story for each lesson plan. This can be combined to do with the tikes and toddlers together! (work with your teaching partner) • Choose Math/Science. You will choose the opposite area for the 2 nd lesson plan for that age. • Choose Art/Sensory • Gross Motor Activity

CDA (pg 2, orange) • You prepare, apply, demonstrate, earn and renew. • You have to have so many educational hours, and working hours to be eligible to receive your CDA.

Portfolio Guide (pg 6, orange) • Competency Statement (CS) • Resource Collection (RC) • Competency Paragraph (CP) • REFER TO THIS PAGE OFTEN. It will help you understand what is needed for the writing process.

UNITS • All of the competency statements, paragraphs, and resource collections are broken up into the units. • Page 7 -8 is a LIST of what you need to accomplish during the unit. The pages following it in the same color give you the details of how you can accomplish it.

Area Tracker • On page 8, you will account for making sure you have activities in your lesson plans that fit into each of the 6 curriculum areas.

Competency Statement (CS) 1 To establish and maintain a safe, healthy, learning environment • Refer to page 6 for what it should look like. • Page 9 will explain in more details the functional areas. • Begin your Reflective Statement about this CS with a paragraph describing how your teaching practices meet this standard. • You may then choose to write on paragraph for each Functional Area, if this make it easier to express your thoughts more clearly. • One paragraph on Safe, one on healthy, one on learning environment. You need 3 examples on how you will meet that. • Needs to be 175 -200 words. • If getting your CDA these must be typed.

Competency Paragraph (CP) 1 -a, 1 -b, 1 -c • 1 -a – Reflect on the sample menu you wrote in Resource Collection (RC) 1 -2. How does it reflect your commitment to children’s nutritional needs? What are its strengths and what would you change. • These should be about 100 words. Reflect on the Resources that you have created.

Resource Collection (RC) 1 -1, 1 -2, 1 -3 • RC 1 -1 – CPR Certificate. If getting your CDA, you have to be CPR Certified. If you aren’t then you don’t have to have, but I would suggest getting it if you want to go into a career with children. • RC 1 -2 – Weekly Menu. Create a menu for children. This can be one found online. You could also get a copy from me of the menu we use in the Center. • RC 1 -3 – Weekly Lesson Plans. This is a broad overview of a weekly lesson plan that you would use. Choose a Theme and come up with the activities you would do. Be a little specific so that you can remember what each of the activities are for later use.
