ECE 191 Course Plan & Requirements • Week 0 • Teams get assigned today (after class) • Contact your mentor, set up 1 st meeting with mentor • Start background reading • Week 1 • • Meet with your mentor(s) Start writing So. W = Statement of Work (defined later) Attend class both Tuesday and Thursday Power. Point presentations Thursday 4 -5 min per team – – 3 Discuss background & motivation for project Show Statement of Work Make an initial stab at a Gantt chart (defined later) Send copy to TA for posting on the Web
ECE 191 Course Plan & Requirements • Most weeks • Meet with your mentor(s) • Work on your project • Power. Point presentations every Thursday, 8 -9 min – Send copy to TA for posting on the Web – Half the groups one Thursday, half the next Thursday • Week 6 • • 4 Design review presentation and documentation 30 minutes for each group, with instructor Teammate evaluation Feedback from the mentors
ECE 191 Course Plan & Requirements • Week 10 • Rehearsal for final presentation (both Tues/Thur) • Finals Week • Thursday 12/8, by 10 am turn in: – All software deliverables to sponsor (cc TA) • Thursday 12/8, 3 pm to 6 pm: – Final presentations (light dinner after) – Turn over hardware deliverables to sponsor • Friday 12/9, by 10 am, turn in: – Final report (to instructor and sponsor) – Peer evaluation form (to instructor and TA) 5
ECE 191 Grading • Team Grade: primarily based on the project – Accomplishments of the project – Effort – Creativity • Team Grade goes up or down based on: – Quality of final report – Team aspects of public speaking • Individual Grade: up or down 1 or 2 notches from the team grade based on: – Mentor evaluation – Peer evaluation – Individual aspects of public speaking – Attendance 6
ECE 191 Statement of Work Clear contract between team and client on what is to be done and delivered in this quarter. • Background – Context of the problem to be solved – Why the project exists • Scope – How the end results of the project this quarter will be used • Phases/Tasks – 4 -5 major tasks and approach – Study, proof of concept, prototype, engineering model, production tooling • Deliverables – Document – Apparatus 7
ECE 191 Engineering Notebooks (Not Required, Not Graded, Just a Good Idea) • Good practice as a potential legal document – – Bound, numbered pages (optional) Write on both sides of each page No tear-outs, blank spaces Neat cross-outs • Project information – Page 1: project title, mentor’s, your, and team members’ contact info – Meeting notes, contacts, ideas, purchases, experiments, results, … – Print-out pages, graphs, etc. , are glued in 8
