Russia & Europe Russia n A country that is both in Europe and Asia. n Largest country in Europe (and the world!) n Most of Russia’s population lives in European Russia. Europe n A continent made up of many countries. n Smaller than the United States. n Ural Mountains are the Eastern boundary for Europe. n Higher population density than most other countries.

Europe’s Landforms n n Europe is a large peninsula with many good harbors. The 4 major landforms are: NW Highlands, Nor. European Plain, Central Uplands, and the Alps. Rhine and Danube River are the major waterways. Europe contains few lakes, but many small rivers.

4 Major Landforms of Europe n n Northwestern Highlands are old, worn-down mountains. Goats and sheep are raised there. North European Plain covers over 50% of Europe. Good farmland high population density. Central Uplands are rocky with many plateaus. Tourism and mining are important. Alpine Mountain System stretches from France to the Balkan Highlands. These are the highest mountains in Europe. Little farming in the valleys.

Russia’s Landforms n n Population density is the highest in the North European Plain. The region of Siberia is west of the Ural Mountains. Only 20% of Russia’s population live there due to it’s harsh climate. The Volga river flows thru western Russia into the Caspian Sea. It is frozen three months of the year. Lake Baikal is the world’s largest & deepest freshwater lake.
