Outreach and Education Charges Develop a comprehensive work plan that : n n n Raises public awareness about wild brook trout Fosters public and private collaborative stewardship Builds strong coalitions that support wild brook trout conservation Produces information on all impacts to brook trout and their habitat Builds an understanding of and support for protecting brook trout habitat among policy makers with an educational and public awareness campaign

Where we are short-term… Reprint past educational material Develop new publications explaining restoration activities and recommendations on regional and local scale Develop educational themes and portable displays v Green development incentives v BMP’s for road and stream crossing development v Riparian buffers to improve water quality v Managing exotics v Natural disaster recovery (i. e. floods)

Where we are going… Get both professionals and the public excited about brook trout restoration and what it means for their environment and health Get recruits to help fulfill this and other responsibilities v. Range-wide v. Regional v. Local

Where we are going… Educational Programs v Let’s Go Fishing and Brook Trout in the Classroom v Developer relations-”Go Green” v Conservation Commissions and other local Government venues v Dam Operators Develop surveys to gauge success and needs

Where we are going… Long-term Partnerships v. Continue with NGO’s & bring in others v. Establish with Businesses §Bottled water companies §Farmers §Stream Crossing Manufacturers and Construction v. Continue with Landowners §Informing them of federal and state grant opportunities for restoration projects that promote the protection of brook trout populations and their habitats v. Establish with Educators

Where we are going… Long-term Partnerships (con. ) v Hold regional summits to relay information & develop organizations focused on meeting the EBTJV-FHP goals and objectives

Ultimate Goals 1) To have a sustainable foundation in defining habitat degradation causes and restoration opportunities for brook trout 2) To have educational consistency and constancy that changes the views of the public and private sector to insure success of this Joint Venture 3) To have a better understanding of the connection between humans and the environment and the benefits of having sustainable brook trout populations and habitats.
