Easter reflection
Opening prayer Lord Jesus Christ, take us along that holy way you once took to your death. Take our minds, our memories, above all our hearts, and let us see what once you did for love of us and all the world. Amen
Palm Sunday “Hosanna, Hosanna! Blessed is the one sent by the Lord. ” Palms are used in Church to remind us of Jesus’ triumphant arrival in Jerusalem.
Maundy Thursday “ Take this and eat it, this is my body. Take this and drink it, for this is my blood. Just as my Father promised it will be poured out to save you from your sins”. The chalice reminds us of the body and blood of Jesus, and the sacrifice he made for us.
The agony in the garden “Father, I am afraid of what lies ahead but I will always do what you ask”. The Bible reminds us of the prayer that Jesus made that night and, that in times of loneliness or trouble, we can also pray.
Jesus is condemned to death “Crucify him, crucify him” A purple cloth is traditionally a colour of royalty. It reminds us that Jesus was a King who was prepared to stand alone.
Jesus is crucified “Father, do not forget me” The cross reminds us of the sacrifice Jesus made for each of us.
Jesus is risen “I give you my peace, and as my Father sent me, so I am sending you”. A lit candle reminds us that Jesus is always with us.
Closing prayer Jesus, you share your life, your light and your peace with us all. Walk with us. Show us how to live out your love so that our sisters and brothers, here and around the world, may know the joy of new life And we may all be changed by living in your light. Amen.
